
NEM SUMMIT 2017 AWARDS
The closure of the NEM Summit 2017 came with the announcement of the Award Winners....
What kind of media are expecting us in the near future and what’s the way that the whole set of upcoming interactive technologies will change the media landscape we know today, participants of this important meeting have heard directly from the leading EU experts.
New European Media Summit 2019 featured in Zagreb even forty lectures and presentations, five key speakers, several introductory presentations and eight roundtables by prominent European experts and scientists.
At the end of May Zagreb hosted the 11th edition of the central NEM Initiative annual congress and exhibition . After a series of European cities such as Frankfurt, Porto or Madrid, the honor of organizing a prestigious European gathering this year had the capital of Croatia. The two – day meeting was held under the high patronage of the President of the Republic of Croatia, Kolinda Grabar – Kitarović and under the auspices of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Republic of Croatia. Partners were the French telecom operator Orange, the distinguished French Institute for Computational Science INRIA, Croatian technological giant Infobip, and the City of Zagreb. It was announced that the New European Media Summit 2020 will be held in Dublin next May.
During last two years, Vital Media project has been working on establishment of research and innovation strategy of the media community for next 5-10 years. In order to establish the community strategy, the Vital Media project was closely working with the NEM Initiative. Based on the gathered community contributions, summarized in a number of NEM strategic documents, the Vital Media project defined Recommendations to decision makers at European Commission and on the EU Member States level for successful European Converged Media, addressing also the next EU research and Innovation framework program Horizon Europe (FP9), which are summarized in this document.
The NEM SRIA 2025 document, containing views of the NEM Initiative community members on research and innovation topics of interests for coming years – towards 2025, have been consolidated during summer 2018 in accordance with the received community inputs. The NEM SRIA 2025 is targeting the next research and innovation program of the European Union “Horizon Europe” (FP9) as well as national and regional research and innovation programs.
In spring 2017, the Vital Media project and the NEM Initiative launched a set of activities, in order to engage the European media community and involve its members in discussions about future of the social media and possible European role in the global social media arena. The advocating for the needed activities on social media has been initiated through publication of a call for action “Towards the Future of Social Media”, seeking for needed contributions and actions from the broad European media community. Furthermore, the topic of the future social media was included in the program of the NEM Summit 2017 by organizing a special session with a call for extended abstract on subject of the future social media, inviting several key-note speakers on this topic, and organizing panel discussions at the event and other occasions.
In accordance with the received inputs and outcomes of discussions mentioned above, a White Paper “Towards the Future Social Media” was created and published in December 2017. Based on the White Paper, the Vital Media project, in cooperation with the NEM Steering Board, worked on a deeper analysis of the topics identified in the White Paper and finalized a publication “Enabling Future Social Media”, in June 2018, which is now available for broad audience.

The Vital Media project completed its work on establishing a Handbook on Convergence and Media Ecosystems in Europe. The handbook presents the current projects related to the convergence of media and cultular and creative industries. It aims at mapping and identifying the European projects in the field of media in the framework of Horizon 2020 programme.
