3rd NEM General Assembly

held on 10th and 11th October 2006 in BrusselsThe 3rd NEM General Assembly took place in Brussels on 10th and 11th October 2006 where 140 participants had opportunity to discuss about recent and future activities of the NEM Initiative. The highlights of the 3rd General Assembly were elections of new NEM Steering Board members and Workshop on expressions of interests of NEM members for creation of collaborative R&D projects.

Elections for NEM Steering Board

NEM General Assembly approved decision to increase number of positions in the Steering Board up to 40. The elections have been organised to improve the scope of interests represented on the NEM Steering Board. The NEM Steering Board members are divided into categories in accordance with their company or organisational profiles. Similarly, the vacant positions were announced for each of the categories to ensure we retain a good balance of interest groups in the NEM discussions and decisions. Workshop on expressions of interests of NEM members

As introduction to the workshop on expressions of interests of NEM members for creation of collaborative R&D projects, Mr. Luis Rodriguez-Roselló, Head of Unit. Networked Audiovisual Systems – Directorate General Information Society and Media – European Commission gave a talk on Networked Media Research challenges for mastering the media revolution with a particular emphasis on draft Work Programme 2007-08 for EC’s 7th Framework Programme. He discussed the challenges for the NEM community in various areas of the FP7; Technology roadblocks, particularly Network and Service Infrastructures, various End-to-end systems for socio-economic goals, and Future and Emerging Technologies. Finally, Mr. Rodriguez-Roselló concluded that NEM is well situated to embrace these challenges and ensure Europe will lead the future media revolution.

During the workshop, 50 expressions of interests have been received from NEM members and 47 of them have been presented at the General Assembly. The presentations are available for download below:

Other topics

Besides Steering Board elections and workshop on expression of interests of NEM members, the NEM Strategic research agenda has been discussed in term of its further improvement and focusing EC 7th Framework Programme. Furthermore, the activities of the NEM Mirror Group and newly established NEM Regulatory working group have been discussed. Finally, representation of NEM in different events was presented.
